GUIDELINES FOR USE OF FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

New River Community College, in upholding its commitment to maintaining accessibility and building community partnerships, makes its facilities available for use by non-college groups and organizations on a first-come, first-served basis. College facilities are available for use by community organizations for functions consistent with the college’s mission. With the commitment, however, comes a responsibility to recognize limitations which may exist in both the time staff members may be able to contribute and the availability of the space at the college. 

I. Priorities for Use of College Facilities

  1. The educational and co-curricular activities at New River Community College take precedence in assignment of all space in buildings and on the grounds of the campus. Other priorities are shown in order below.
  2. Events and activities sponsored by other colleges or governmental agencies.
  3. Use by non-profit/public service community groups.
  4. Use by other organizations.

II. Scheduling Procedures

  1. Facilities reservations, including the grounds for the campus in Dublin, may be made through the Office of Workforce Development located in Edwards Hall
    (540-674-3613 or 540-674-3600, ext. 4352). Reservations for the 十大网赌软件推荐’s Christiansburg site may be made through the site coordinator (540-674-3620).
  2. Applications should not be submitted more than 60 days in advance of the events.

III. College Services

  1. The college will provide facilities which are safe, clean and accessible.
  2. The space approved for the applicant will include the furniture and/or equipment normally provided in the area.
  3. Business hours of New River Community College and all sites are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. New River Community College will not be open for selected holidays and the facilities will not normally be available for use on dates when the college is closed.

IV. User Responsibility

  1. The applicant or group shall either clean the area used to the satisfaction of 十大网赌软件推荐’s Director of Facilities Services, or contract with the college custodial service to clean the area used. If the area is not cleaned to the satisfaction of the Director, then New River Community College will clean the area at an additional charge.
  2. The use of alcohol and/or drugs is prohibited on or in the property of New River Community College. Smoking is prohibited in all college buildings, with outdoor smoking allowed only in designated areas. Disrupting or obstructing college functions or activities is prohibited. No illegal activity is permitted at events making use of 十大网赌软件推荐 facilities.
  3. Any damages to existing facilities, finished surfaces, to include but not limited to floors, walls or ceilings, or to other property of New River Community College that the applicant or group used or readied for use, shall be repaired to the satisfaction of the Director of Facilities Services at the expense of the applicant or group. New River Community College reserves the right to repair such damages and bill the applicant or group for the costs of these repairs.
  4. The applicant, participants, and guests shall hold New River Community College and New River Community College employees harmless from any claims, damages or actions of any kind or nature arising from or caused by the use of systems, equipment or facilities of New River Community College.

V. Encampments

  1. The construction or occupation of a Camping Tent is prohibited.
  2. “Camping Tent” means any collapsible tent or structure, typically having as its basic components a flexible material supported by a framework, designed, intended, or used as temporary shelter while camping or on recreational outdoor outings. Camping Tents may include tents known as “pup tents,” “dome tents,” “cabin tents,” “hiker tents,” and “backpacking tents.”
  3. A “Camping Tent” does not include a tent with all sides entirely open and where there is an unobstructed view into such tent from the outside at all angles. All other conduct provisions apply to the use of open tents.
  4. Only tents approved in advance pursuant to the 十大网赌软件推荐 Guidelines for Use of Facilities and Equipment shall be permitted. No Camping Tents shall be permitted at any time. All tents of any type must be removed no later than 10:00 p.m.
  1. Camping is prohibited on property owned, leased, or operated by the College, Virginia Community College System, or their foundations.
  2. “Camping” means the act of using any part of the property or facilities for living accommodation purposes, such as establishment of temporary or permanent living quarters, sleeping outdoors overnight or making preparations for overnight sleeping (including the laying down of bedding), storing personal belongings, using any tent, shelter, or similar structure regardless of size for sleeping; sleeping in, on, or under parked vehicles, or setting up temporary or permanent sleeping areas outdoors or in structures not designated for human occupancy.
  3. “Camping” does not include the use of College, VCCS, or their foundations’ property that has been wholly or partially designated as sleeping or relaxation areas; a tailgating activity in conjunction with a College, VCCS, or foundation event; or the use of temporary hammocks or lounge furniture for recreation or studying activities outdoors on College, VCCS, or foundation owned property during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  1. These prohibitions shall not apply to the College, the Virginia Community College System Office, or the College or System foundations or to Non-Camping Tents erected for their use.

VII. Audio-Visual Equipment

Audio-visual equipment is available on request. Please make arrangements in advance of the event.

Equipment fees in addition to the basic rental fee may be assessed depending on the equipment to be used and if applicable, assistance provided by 十大网赌软件推荐 staff. Any such fees will be stipulated at the time facilities are reserved.
